VAULT

The vault is an apparatus for men and women, both have this apparatus in competition. It is composed of a runway of 25 meters and a springboard or a trampoline and the vault which make 1m20 of high.

There are different execution steps:
  • The run
  • The push-off on the springboard. It is the touch of the springboard with the feet. The way to touch it depends of the gymnast level. They have to take-off before the springboard. They can directly jump on it with their two feet or they can do a round-off before, and put their feet on the springboard at the end of the round-off.
  • The touch with the vault. At a beginning level, it is just consist in jump in squat position on it. But after with a better level, gymnast have flight element after touch the vault with their hands.
  • The landing. At the end of their jump, gymnast has to land on the floor to finish their movement. The best is to not move at the end. In fact, gymnast loose some point if they make a step. Sometimes gymnasts fall at the end of their jump because of the speed or they are unbalanced, so they lose some point if they fall.

This discipline is a dynamic exercise which demonstrates power and accuracy, combining height and length. In 2001 the appearance of the apparatus changed. Before it was more looks like a pommel horse but without the handles.
